Cedartown Police foiled two burglary attempts this morning and captured one suspect, according to officials.

The first dispatch from 911 came at 7:15 a.m., according to Cedartown Assistant Police Chief Jamie Newsome.

The caller reported someone suspicious near apartments at 608 College Drive, Newsome said.

Officers were informed as they headed to the area that an apartment resident had called 911 to report that someone was breaking into her residence.

She and her daughter were locked in a bedroom while the unknown man entered the apartment, Newsome said.

Newsome said officers found Ricky Cuzzart, 50, of Cedartown in the apartment when they arrived. Newsome said Cuzzart had broken down the front door in order to gain entry into the apartment.

Cuzzart faces charges of criminal trespass and burglary.

The woman and her daughter were not harmed, Newsome said.

Newsome said the second burglary call came in at 8:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Marietta Street. He said three officers were in already the area at the time of the call. Officers arrived at the scene immediately after the suspect had broken a window in order to enter the residence.

Nothing was taken from the residence, Newsome said.

The suspect fled on foot as police pulled up and was not able to be apprehended.

Newsome asks that anyone in the area with information about the incident or anyone who sees suspicious activity to call 911.
