The Rev. James Ivy Privett Sr., 85, of Cedartown, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2012.

He was born on Jan. 17, 1927 in Cedartown, the son of the late Tom and Birdie Norris Privett.

Mr. Privett was a United States Army veteran and a member of Youngs Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruby Duncan and brother, Charlie Privett.

Mr. Privett is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Atkins Privett; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley Frady, Liz Hilterman, Barbara Sanford and Jerry, Betty Ricks and Bill; son and daughter-in-law, James “Buddy” Privett, Jr. and Betty; sister, Ann Johnson and brother, Jackie Privett. Thirteen grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren also survive

The funeral arrangements were conducted on Thursday, May 24 at 4 p.m. at Youngs Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Barry McCullough and Rev. Roger Parris officiating. The music was provided by Valarie Davis.

Interment followed in the Antioch Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Privett’s grandsons: Shane Privett, Rodney Tidwell, Casey Frady, Chad Floyd, Shannon Privett and Kye Watson served as pallbearers.
