Rockmart took first place, beating second place Woodland by 85 points as six varsity wrestlers won division championships and two junior varsity wrestlers won titles as well.
It was the second tournament this season that the RMS team has won.
“When I started here two years ago, I took over a team that had three, maybe four wrestlers on it by the end of the previous season,” coach Kris Maynard said.
“We finished my first year with 20 wrestlers. At the end of that season I said it was my goal to have Rockmart and champions appear together in a sentence.”
A.J. Streetman, Nick Forsyth, Chevy Cox, Marlon Morales, Hayden Cook and Dakota Wilson all placed first in their weight classes with all but Streetman remaining undefeated on the young season.
Second places in the varsity bracket went to Devin Darden, Tyler Jones, Jared Pike, Jonathan Adams, Tyler Pierce and Chris Owens while Alvin Allen took third and Dylan Roberson and Draven Smtih each were fourth.
In all, every wrestler in Rockmart’s starting lineup placed in the top four of their brackets.
In the junior varsity tournament, Ethan Pinkerton and Braden Baert wrestled each other in the finals with Pinkerton winning while Austin Graham also won first place.
Casin Goodson, Wesley Ragsdale, Hunter Channell and Luke Holder finished third in their divisions while Jake Brown took fourth.
The Rockmart Middle School wrestling team is continuing to compete this weekend and will host the Junior Jacket Invitational next Saturday, Dec. 18.
