Severe thunderstorms possible in Polk County this afternoon and evening

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm weather outlook for Polk County and northwest Georgia for this afternoon.

The current forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Some storms could be severe, with frequent lightning. Partly sunny, with a high near 92. West wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tonight: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
