Rome, Ga. - Shorter University senior nursing student Carla Smiley has received the 2011-2012 Aflac Nursing Scholarship.

The $2,500 that Smiley is set to receive will be applied towards spring 2012 education expenses. A resident of Nashville, Tenn., Smiley was one of two students selected from an application base encompassing 25 of Georgia’s private, not-for-profit colleges and universities. She was selected based on her outstanding academic record as well as her excellent co-curricular achievements.

Most recently, Smiley traveled to Bulgaria with fellow Shorter University nursing students in order to serve in an orphanage.
