Another season, another championship.

The Cedartown Xtreme fast-pitch softball team started the 2012 season out like they have most other seasons, with a strong championship showing at a tournament.

Playing at Canton on Saturday, April 28, the Xtreme competed in the GSA “We are the Best” tournament and won first place.

“This was probably the best all around tournament I have ever seen our team play,” head coach Shane Lee said. “We were playing great ball in all area’s. We had great pitching from all three pitchers. Our fielding was the best I have seen and our bats stayed hot the entire tournament.”

Cedartown downed the North Georgia Crush 6-3 in game one.

“We would have great pitching from Lizzie Lee,” Lee said. “She would pitch the entire game to earn the win. We utilized great defense, big hits, and aggressive base running to win.”

Lee said that Lauren Lindsey earned the game ball with great play in the field and at the plate.

In game two, the Xtreme blanked the Outrage 8-0.

“We would have another game with great pitching from LA Tillery,” Lee said. “She pitched the entire game.”

Lee noted that Tillery earned the game ball with a solid performance on the mound and some big hits offensively.

The North Georgia Nitro was the next opponent in game three, and the Xtreme defeated them 8-0.

“We had great pitching from Baylee Wright,” Lee said. “She pitched the entire game. We also had two inside the park home runs. Amber Timms and Tamara Brown both hit the ball to the fence and cleared the bases.”

Lee gave out three game balls after this game, awarding Wright, Timms, and Brown.

In the championship game, the Xtreme blew out the Nitro 9-1 to claim the championship.

“We had great pitching from Tillery, and Ally Dodd hit a three-run triple,” Lee said. “The defense was almost flawless, making nearly every play in the field.”

Dodd received the game ball after the title contest.

“We have had some great Xtreme teams over the years,” Lee said. “But this is the best all around team we have ever put on the field. This team is starting to come together, and we look forward to great success the entire year.”
