After posting a 3-0 victory over the College of Charleston in an elimination game of the NCAA regionals early Sunday afternoon, the Jackets faced top-seeded Florida in the final game of the day.
The results were not pretty for the Jackets, who saw their season end with a 15-3 loss to the Gators.
Mike Zunino and Daniel Pigott drove in four runs apiece for the Gators (45-18), who now will advance to the super regionals for the fourth consecutive year.
Florida will next host either Vanderbilt or North Carolina State, who play tonight in the championship game of the Raleigh regional.
Florida pulled away from Tech (38-26) with a seven-run rally in the fifth.
Zunino had a three-run homer in the second and a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Pigott had a two-run double in the first and a two-run single in the fifth.
Brian Johnson (8-4) allowed three hits and a run in five innings for the win.
Tech’s Jake Davies (1-4) gave up seven runs, six earned, in two innings.
Earlier in the day, in the Jackets’ win against College of Charleston, Tech’s Zane Evans delivered from the plate and the mound.
He had a two-out, RBI double in the sixth and pitched three scoreless innings of relief for his seventh save.
Connor Lynch gave Evans some extra cushion with a two-run homer, his first of the season, in the ninth inning.
Alex Cruz (8-3) gave up two hits in six innings for the win. Josh Renfro (6-8) got the loss despite a solid outing.
