The Xtreme started pool play by facing the Rome Bomb Squad. Shane Lee’s team fell behind 5-0 early due to errors, and attempted to rally back.
The Xtreme plated two runs to cut the deficit to 5-2 but the game was then stopped due to the time limit.
In the second game, Lee’s team faced the Vengeance and they rolled to an 8-1 win.
Lizzie Lee pitched the entire game for the Xtreme and earned the game ball for her performance.
The Cedartown team entered into bracket play as the No. 4 seed and opened that round by playing the Vengeance, the No. 5 seed. The Xtreme fell behind early 3-0 before rallying back to go ahead 4-3.
Pitcher Lauren Ashlee Tillery would then keep the Vengeance at bay as the Xtreme picked up the win. Makenzy Youngblood earned the game ball according to her coach, for her defensive play as catcher and her offensive production at the plate.
In the semifinals, the Xtreme faced the top seed, the Rome Bomb Squad. The Xtreme fell behind early once again, this time by a 2-1 score, before roaring back with 12 unaswered runs to win going away 13-2. Tillery pitched the entire game to earn the win and Lizzie Lee earned the game ball because of her play in the field.
In the championship contest, the Xtreme faced the second-seeded West Cobb Xplosion. The Xtreme fell behind once again in this game, however, this time they were unable to mount a comeback and lost 8-2.
“The game started at 11:30 p.m., and it was our fourth game since 5:30 p.m. that day,” coach Lee said. “We played hard all day, but we could see the girls getting tired. We played in four of the final five games of the day and we went into the championship game without a break.”
The Xtreme will now take some time off before returning to play at the GSA State Tournament, starting Saturday, June 16. Their first game will be at 10:20 a.m. in Alpharetta.
