The following is a list of events going on in and around Polk County today, Jan. 11:

1. The Cedartown Senior Citizen Nutrition Center located next to Bert Wood Park has activities Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Seniors 55 and older may participate in activities. Seniors 60 and older may participate in activities as well as nutritional meals and trips.

2. AARP Tax-aide will once again be available at the Cedartown Library this year. This program provides free tax preparation and assistance to low and middle income taxpayers with special attention to those 60-years-old and over. The program will begin on Feb. 6, 2013 and continue every Wednesday until April 10, 2013. Assistance will be provieded from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those interested are encouraged to come early to sign up as there are a limited number of returns that can be prepared daily. Registrants need their social security cards and ID.

4. Transitions Hospice Care is seeking compassionate individuals to provide support and companionship to patients. Anyone who would like to become an integral part of the Transitions Hospice Care team and offer superior hospice service to patients and families contact Britnee Tow, Volunteer Coordinator, at 706-378-2273 or btow@transitionshc.com. Opportunities are available in Rockmart, Cedartown and Rome.
