CARROLLTON, GA. — The University of West Georgia is set to host a discussion with one of the first African-Americans to enlist in the Marine Corps as part of its Black History Month programming.

School spokeswoman Elizabeth Stone says Congressional Gold Medal recipient James Pack will speak in the Campus Center ballroom Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Pack, of Villa Rica, was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2011 and is set to discuss his historic experience as a Marine. The event also features Fred Codes, president of the Montford Point Marine Association -which is an organization devoted to preserving the memory of the first African-American Marine Corps members.

The event is free and open to the public.
