ATLANTA (AP) — A Republican bill introduced in the House is taking aim at President Barack Obama's citizenship.

The legislation from state Rep. Mark Hatfield, of Waycross, would require all candidates to submit documents proving their citizenship to have their name placed on the 2012 presidential primary ballot.

The new bill won't have time to make it before legislators this year. There are just two days left in the 40-day session. But it could be reintroduced next year.

State officials in Hawaii say Obama was born in the state and is a natural-born American citizen. Some critics have continued to insist that the president has never produced his actual birth certificate.
