Georgia Power Company dispatched a team to find the source of a power outage in Rockmart that has left about 255 customers without electric service.
Christy Ihrig, a spokesperson for the power company, said the outage occurred around 4 p.m. The outage is "very localized" and is limited to Rockmart, she said.
"We have a crew headed there now to figure out what caused it," Ihrig said. "They're going to have to trace the line and figure out what came in contact with it."
Because the source of the problem was not immediately known, Ihrig said repair crews could not provide an estimated time for service to be repaired.
The area affected includes the Goodyear Village community, which is bordered by Goodyear Street and Piedmont Avenue, near Highway 278.
A feature of the neighborhood is the 80-year-old oak trees, which were planted when the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company built a plant and created a neighborhood of rental houses for its employees in 1929-1930. Fallen tree limbs in the community cause a number of temporary power outages each year.
